West End Galleries September 4 1st Thursday Gallery Night Open until 8 pm West End Gallery Night: 1st Thursday, open until 8:00 pm. Visit eight galleries within walking distance. Ample parking is available. September's featured venue is the Wally Workman Gallery. "Maximal/Minimal" includes paintings, drawings, and collages by Helmut Barnett. Originally from Germany, Barnett now works from a renovated 100 year old house in downtown Austin. "The title of my show could easily be applied to the effort involved in making the work. Some pieces are dashed off in a moment of decisive inspiration, while others demand a full measure of time and labor," says Barnett. "For me, making art is a continuous process of building on my previous work. I add, I discard; sometimes one succeeds in getting to the essence of the thing." |
