October’s featured venue is ART on 5th. For years Hessam Abrishami’s dynamic compositions, powerful expressions, and vibrant colors have captured viewers around the world with their amazing depth and unique intrigue. Hessam’s work portrays whimsical figures that are bright and bold, symbolizing the celebration of life, romance, and emotion. Born in Shiraz, Iran in 1951, Hessam left his home country to expand his knowledge and pursue life as an artist. He studied in Italy for a number of years before finally settling in California. Hessam’s artwork has been featured in over 100 one-man gallery shows, 25 international exhibitions, and multiple museums.

Sketching in the Galleries
Observe, learn, and draw surrounded by art! Join artist Phillip Wade as you focus closely on the art on view and practice your drawing skills. Philip Wade has been a member of the Art School faculty since 1999.
Sketching is how artists think aloud, and you'll hear them loud and clear when you see how thumbnail drawings you will do from these great works of art reveal the thought behind the design. You will also play with different kinds of line, learning their emotional content.

Austin's progressive theatre troupe, Refraction Arts, responds to the Modern Art. Modern Lives. Then + Now exhibition with excerpts from "Exploration of a Trash Bag" and a sneak preview of their latest performance, "Unflappable," at AMOA-Downtown on Thursday, October 30 at 7 pm.
